Aquatic Exercise

What is Aquatic exercise?

Aquatic exercise is a low-impact and highly effective form of physical activity performed in warm water. The buoyancy of the water supports the body and reduces stress on the joints, while its natural resistance helps to build muscle strength and endurance. The warmth of the water also promotes relaxation, flexibility and pain relief.
Sessions may include walking, stretching, strengthening and aerobic movements, all adapted to individual needs and goals. Because the water provides both support and challenge, people can often attempt movements that may be more difficult on land.
Unlike aquatic physiotherapy, which is delivered by a physiotherapist to address specific therapy goals, aquatic exercise is focused on general health, fitness and well-being.

Who is it for?

Aquatic exercise is suitable for adults of all ages who want to improve mobility, flexibility, fitness and overall well-being. It may be particularly helpful for parent carers, adults with joint or mobility issues, and members of the public who would like a safe, supportive and enjoyable form of exercise in water.
